MOFA Spokesperson’s Commentary on Japan’s Draft Revision of Courses of Study for Elementary and Secondary Schools (February 14, 2017)

1. The Government of the Republic of Korea deeply deplores that the Government of Japan made preposterous claims once again over Dokdo, clearly an integral part of the ROK’s territory, in its draft revision of courses of study for elementary and secondary schools, and demands their immediate withdrawal.

2. The Japanese Government should be aware that its draft revision of courses of study for elementary and secondary schools instills an erroneous territorial perspective in its future generations and could have a negative impact on the future-oriented development of ROK-Japan relations.

3. The Government of the Republic of Korea clearly reiterates that it will under no circumstances tolerate any provocations over Dokdo, clearly an integral part of the ROK’s territory historically, geographically and under international law, and will respond resolutely.
