MOFA Spokesperson’s Commentary on the Tokyo Rally Calling for a Swift Resolution of the Dokdo Issue (November 9, 2016): 1. The Government of the Republic of Korea expresses a strong protest over the fact that some politicians of Japan held a rally in Tokyo on November 9 to call for an early resolution of the Dokdo issue, a rally similar to those they had held in 2012 and 2014, and that some high-level government officials of the country attended it. The ROK government urges Japan to stop making such futile claims over Dokdo, an integral part of the ROK territory historically, geographically, and under international law.

2. The Japanese government, in the spirit of facing history squarely and advancing towards the future, should actively join in the efforts of the Republic of Korea to open a new chapter in the ROK-Japan relations.
