MOFA Spokesperson’s Statement on So-Called “Dokdo Day” Event Held by Japan’s Shimane Prefecture (February 22, 2020)

1. The government of the Republic of Korea strongly protests that Japan is repeating futile provocations over Dokdo by holding the so-called “Dokdo Day” event hosted by Shimane Prefecture on February 22 and by sending a high-level official of Japan’s central government to the event. The ROK government once again sternly demands an immediate abolition of the event.

2. The Japanese government must immediately stop making unjustifiable claims to Dokdo, which is clearly an integral part of the ROK territory in terms of history, geography and international law, and squarely face history in a humble manner.
