MOFA Spokesperson’s Commentary on the “Defense of Japan 2016” (August 2, 2016)

 1. The Government of the Republic of Korea strongly protests against the Japanese government’s repeated inclusion of unjust claims to Dokdo, clearly an integral part of the ROK territory historically, geographically, and under international law, in the “Defense of Japan 2016,” its annual defense white paper, issued on August 2, and demands an immediate withdrawal of such claims. 

2. The Japanese government should immediately end such futile claims over Dokdo and make active efforts for the ROK-Japan relationship to move forward into a new, trust-based future, while looking squarely at the truth of history.
